This is a recipe from my dear friend Snehal from Bangalore. This is a great dish for people who are fasting (farad dish) or just as a variation to breakfast.
Ingredients:
1 cup Sabudana
1 cup Groundnuts dry roasted (remove the skin and grind it)
Red chilli powder (as per taste)
Salt (as per taste)
Sugar (as per taste)
1 tsp Jeera ((as per taste)
Green chillies (2-4)
Ghee (2 or 3 tbsp)
Method:
1.Soak sabudana overnight (or 4-6 hours) in just enough water to make a thin layer over the sabudana.
2. Remove the skins from the roasted groundnuts and grind it into powder. Add groundnut powder, red chillies’ powder, salt, and sugar to the soaked sabudana and mix well in a bowl
3. In a pan heat the ghee, splutter jeera and chopped green chillies
4. Now add the sabudana mixture in it and mix well. Sprinkle little water and then put a cover and cook for about 5 mins
5. Once done, garnish with coriander and serve hot with chatni or curd.
Quick chatani
In small portion of curd add red chillies’ powder, salt and groundnut powder and the quick chatni is ready to be served. Optional add on: Pinch of jeera powder, chopped coriander.
My Variation
I make the same type of khichidi with a little variation in ingredients and method.
Ingredients:
1 cup sabudana (soaked overnight)
1 cup groundnuts, dry roasted, skins removed and coarsley ground
1 cup potatoes, diced
Juice of one lemon
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp coriander leaves
2-3 green chillies
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Heat the oil in a kadai. Fry the green chillies for a few seconds. Add the diced potatoes and salt. Cover and cook till potaotes are done.
2. Add the sabudana after removing any excess water. Mix well. Add the groundnut powder and lemon juice and cook on low heat for 2 mins stirring well so that all ingredients are mixed
3. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
If you like it a bit more sour, add a little more lemon juice.
